The Kaduna State House of Assembly has accused Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the representative of Kaduna North Federal Constituency and son of the former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of threatening the Speaker of the Assembly.
They claim that Bello condemned the Assembly for setting up a committee to investigate his father’s administration from 2015 to 2023.
According to the Assembly, Bello posted two now-deleted tweets on social media suggesting a call to “fight” after the committee was established.
He was also accused of disrespecting the entire legislative arm of the government. Additionally, the Assembly alleges that Bello sent insulting and threatening messages to the Speaker via WhatsApp.
Screenshots of these tweets and messages have circulated widely, causing concern among the citizens of Kaduna State.
The Assembly expressed disappointment that a federal lawmaker entrusted with representing the people would engage in such behavior to obstruct the lawful functions of the State Assembly.
However, they reaffirmed their commitment to serving without bias, intimidation, or threats. The Assembly emphasized that threats and intimidation, even from federal lawmakers, will not deter them from pursuing justice and accountability.
They reiterated their dedication to providing checks and balances and upholding the rule of law in Kaduna State. Finally, they called on the people of Kaduna State to remain vigilant and support transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
