Nigerian Political Leaders Urge Love, Unity, Sacrifice, and Compassion for the betterment of the Country

As Christians in Nigeria join believers around the world to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, several prominent Nigerian political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and various serving and former state governors, have emphasized the enduring virtues of love, sacrifice, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

In their individual Easter messages, the leaders called for a renewed commitment to national cohesion and empathy, urging citizens to rise above ethnic and religious divisions and work collectively toward the peace and progress of the country.

Atiku Calls for Unity Beyond Ethnic and Religious Lines

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emphasized the importance of embracing one another regardless of differences, stressing that love and sacrifice are crucial for the unity Nigeria urgently needs. He highlighted the dangers posed by narrow, sectional interests and called for introspection, compassion, and steadfast pursuit of togetherness.
“At this season, let us remain committed to unity across every divide. A nation united in spirit and purpose shall always endure and flourish,” Atiku said.

Peter Obi Advocates for Compassionate Leadership

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urged Christians to use the Easter season to pray for leaders who are tender-hearted and empathetic to the sufferings of the people. Obi lamented the visible leadership failure in the face of widespread insecurity and hardship, describing the Easter celebration as a reminder of the sacrificial and compassionate leadership exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Governor Mbah Emphasizes Forgiveness and Brotherhood

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah called Easter a time for forgiveness, love, and the strengthening of unity across different faiths and tribes.
“Easter teaches the importance of sacrifice, penitence, moderation, love, and selflessness, reminding us of our shared humanity and the need for peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Oyebanji: Christ’s Death and Resurrection, A Special Gift

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State described Easter as a special gift from God and a time for reflection on humility, perseverance, and compassion.
“As Christians, Easter offers us a chance to rethink our relationships, embrace love, affection, and tolerance, just as exemplified by Christ’s resurrection,” he remarked.

Oborevwori Calls for Reflection and Renewal

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urged Christians to use Easter as a time for reflection, renewal, and hope. He encouraged citizens to commit to building a more just, united, and prosperous society while praying for peace, security, and progress both in Delta State and across Nigeria.

Mutfwang Preaches Renewal and Hope

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State described Easter as the cornerstone of Christian faith, centered on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He called the celebration an opportunity for deep reflection and renewal, emphasizing that Christ’s resurrection assures believers of victory over sin, despair, and adversity.

Omo-Agege Urges Rejuvenation and Commitment to Nation Building

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President, encouraged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Easter season’s spiritual rejuvenation, advocating for a rededication to building a renewed and stronger nation in line with God’s divine design for humanity.

Amaechi Calls for National Cohesion and Security

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, stressed the need for love, peace, and tolerance across religious and ethnic lines to foster a safe and prosperous Nigeria.
He expressed concern over the rampant killings and insecurity, noting that peace, security, and unity of purpose are necessary for national progress.

EFCC Chairman Advocates Integrity Over Corruption

In his Easter message, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, urged Christians to reject corruption and embrace integrity.
He called for collective efforts and sacrifices towards national rebuilding, emphasizing that the Easter season symbolizes renewal, revival, and restoration.
