In the spirit of Easter, former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has called on Nigerians to set aside divisions and work towards strengthening the nation’s unity. He urged citizens to reflect deeply on the shared values that hold the country together, emphasizing the importance of sacrifice, faith, and collective perseverance.
In a statement he personally signed on Sunday, Senator Lawan noted that the essence of Easter — marked by sacrifice and hope — mirrors the resilience and enduring spirit of the Nigerian people. He stressed that despite facing numerous challenges over the years, Nigerians have consistently demonstrated strength and an unwavering belief in a brighter future.
“As our Christian brothers and sisters celebrate Easter, a season of renewal and hope, it is important for us as a nation to reflect on the core values that unite us,” Lawan said. “The spirit of sacrifice and faith that Easter signifies is deeply embedded in the Nigerian character.”
Drawing parallels between Christ’s triumph over adversity and Nigeria’s journey through trials, Lawan emphasized the need for renewed dedication to building a more united, prosperous, and equitable country for all citizens.
He called on Nigerians to view the nation’s diversity as a powerful asset rather than a source of division, encouraging mutual understanding and harmony across all ethnic and religious lines.
“Let us work hand in hand to bridge divisions that threaten our national unity and focus instead on the shared aspirations that bring us together,” he said.
The former Senate President further urged Nigerians to let the message of Easter inspire them to become more compassionate, responsible, and committed to the nation’s progress. He highlighted the need to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and equality across all strata of society.
“This season should be a time of reflection, reconciliation, and renewed hope,” Lawan added. “Let us seize this opportunity to reaffirm our faith in Nigeria and commit ourselves to the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and national unity.”
Concluding his message, Lawan called on the citizenry to offer prayers for the country’s leadership, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and all those entrusted with governance. He prayed for divine wisdom, discernment, and strength for them, so they can lead with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the common good.
