Renewed Hope Initiative Empowers Over 300 Women and Youths in Niger State to Boost Agriculture

In a bold move to enhance agricultural productivity and uplift vulnerable groups, the Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, has distributed agricultural inputs and support to more than 300 women and youths in Niger State. This strategic intervention is part of a broader agenda to foster food security and empower grassroots communities through sustainable farming.

Themed “Planting for the Future,” the program is designed to harness the untapped potential of women and young people, positioning them as key players in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector. Held at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium in Minna, North Central Nigeria, the event attracted community leaders, stakeholders, and notable dignitaries.

Representing the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was Fatima Bago, wife of Niger State Governor Umaru Bago. In her keynote address, she underlined the critical role of women in agriculture, stressing that empowering women and youths with essential farming tools and resources is a powerful step toward achieving household nutrition and national food sufficiency.

“When you empower a woman in agriculture, you empower a nation,” she declared. “This initiative will not only nourish homes but also strengthen the nation’s food systems.”

Fatima Bago also highlighted the comprehensive nature of the program, which spans across various agricultural fields including crop cultivation, livestock farming, poultry production, and aquaculture.

Echoing her sentiments, Mary Noel-Berje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affirmative Action, noted that the initiative is closely aligned with the New Niger Agenda. She emphasized that this intervention is a strategic step toward harnessing the energy and innovation of women and youth to drive agricultural transformation in the state.

“This initiative is both timely and strategic,” Noel-Berje stated. “It positions women and youths as catalysts for sustainable agricultural growth and long-term food security.”

Beneficiaries of the program—including members of the Nigeria Association of Women in Agriculture and individuals with disabilities—expressed gratitude, noting that the support is arriving at an opportune moment just before the rainy season begins.

As the Renewed Hope Initiative continues its efforts across Niger State, the ripple effect is expected to drive community development, enhance local economies, and ensure a food-secure future for generations to come.
