ABUJA – A socio-political organization, Abia Concerned Citizens (ACC), has strongly criticized the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP), alleging that the group is acting on behalf of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a plot to destabilize opposition parties across Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja, the Director General of ACC, Rose Ugoh, accused Julius Abure, the factional chairman of the LP, of serving as a covert agent of the APC. She asserted that Abure’s recent actions and statements, particularly those attributed to the faction’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, reveal a troubling pattern of disloyalty to the opposition cause.
Ugoh referenced a statement in which Ibrahim appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party. She described this appeal as proof that the Abure faction is externalizing internal disputes to weaken the party’s structure and benefit the ruling party.
“All genuine members of the Labour Party have moved past the Supreme Court’s verdict and are focused on reconciliation and rebuilding,” Ugoh said. “But it is clear that Abure and his allies are deliberately fueling internal chaos to destroy the party from within.”
She further questioned Abure’s commitment to the party, pointing out his silence when several LP lawmakers defected to the APC. Ugoh also condemned Abure’s reported attempt to suspend Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, calling it a baseless move against one of Nigeria’s most accomplished state leaders.
“Governor Alex Otti stands out as the best performing governor in the country, particularly in the South East,” she declared. “From energy and security to education and industrialization, he has brought unprecedented transformation to Abia State. As Abians, we will not tolerate continued attacks on our people’s governor by those acting out APC scripts.”
In addition, Ugoh voiced alarm over Abure’s latest pronouncement that his National Working Committee (NWC) had suspended key figures within the party, including Senator Ireti Kingibe, the female senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She described this as further evidence of his divisive tactics aimed at weakening the Labour Party’s influence and internal cohesion.
The development comes amid growing tensions within the LP, with Abure himself recently warning that alleged “saints” within the party could soon be exposed if he chose to reveal details surrounding campaign funds.
