Delta Police Captured Woman Who Drugged Mother and Abducted Two-Month-Old Baby

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a woman who allegedly drugged a young mother and abducted her two-month-old baby boy. The arrest was announced by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Asaba.

According to CP Abaniwonda, the suspect lured the 20-year-old mother into drinking juice laced with drugs while they were on a business trip from Koko to Warri on February 16, 2025. The unsuspecting mother, who had embarked on the journey with the suspect identified as Mrs. Joy, lost consciousness after consuming the spiked drink. Taking advantage of the situation, the suspect absconded with the infant.

The incident was reported on April 7, 2025, around 10:00 a.m. by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Police Station, who received a formal complaint regarding the case. Acting promptly on the information, the DPO initiated an intelligence-driven investigation that led to the eventual arrest of the 49-year-old woman.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to abducting the baby. Fortunately, the child, now five months old, was safely recovered and has since been reunited with his parents.

Commissioner Abaniwonda confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody as further investigations continue into the matter.
