A prominent Nigerian legal practitioner and philanthropist based in the United Kingdom, Professor Gaskin Igbineweka, has called on Nigerians to refrain from attacking or ridiculing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his alleged involvement in past legal matters in the United States.
In a press statement released in Benin City, Professor Igbineweka—who also serves as the President of the Nigerian Welfare Club in the UK—urged the public to exercise caution and fairness in their discourse. He emphasized that any purported legal issues President Tinubu may have encountered while in the United States have been legally resolved. According to him, “even if the President committed any crime in the U.S when he was there, such conviction had been vitiated and his slate wiped clean by law.”
Describing President Tinubu as the foremost citizen of Nigeria and the leader of the world’s most populous black nation, Professor Igbineweka stressed the importance of treating the office of the President with dignity. He called on all Nigerians, regardless of political or ethnic backgrounds, to show the President the respect that comes with his position.
As a seasoned elder statesman and patriot, Professor Igbineweka further stated his commitment to supporting any individual who holds the office of the President, irrespective of their political affiliation or ethnic origin. He noted that national unity and respect for leadership are crucial for Nigeria’s progress.
