The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, has been tragically killed by his abductors despite the payment of a ransom. According to reports, Adepoyigi was shot dead after the kidnappers claimed that the initial ransom of N5 million was insufficient, demanding an increased sum of N30 million.
The late chairman was kidnapped last Monday while parking his car at his residence in Ifon, a town in Ose Local Government Area of the state. In a shocking twist, the kidnappers also seized the two individuals who had delivered the initial ransom. They later released them but went ahead to execute Adepoyigi.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep sorrow over the growing insecurity in the region.
“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension,” Ojo said. “We urge our people to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united as we work together to overcome this threat.”
He added that the entire leadership and people of Ose LGA mourn the loss of Adepoyigi. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and political associates. His dedication to the progress of our party and grassroots development will always be remembered.”
Ojo further noted that just days before this incident, another resident narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt while parking his motorcycle.
Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner, Wilfred Afolabi, stated that the police have yet to confirm the reported killing. He said that a team of special officers has been dispatched to Ifon to investigate the situation, following widespread reports on social media.
