Former Enugu Lawmaker Ezeugwu Resigns from PDP, Cites “Deceitocracy”

In a detailed resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of Udunedum Ward in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday, former lawmaker and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Ezeugwu, formally severed ties with the party. He cited a series of deliberate injustices and internal betrayals within the Enugu State chapter of the PDP, accusing the party of abandoning meritocracy in favor of deceit and personal gain.

Ezeugwu labeled the party’s operations in the state as a “Deceitocracy,” condemning what he described as the manipulation of internal processes by party leaders for selfish ends. According to him, the tipping point came during the lead-up to the 2023 general elections, when party leaders, disregarding the counsel of loyal and well-meaning members, unilaterally selected candidates in a haphazard and self-serving manner.

“In numerous cases, merit was painfully sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity,” he lamented, adding that deceit had been elevated to “unimaginable proportions.” Reflecting on his personal ordeal, Ezeugwu expressed gratitude for the wisdom to distance himself from what he now views as a political “Trojan Horse.” He alleged that he was subjected to targeted economic suppression and political humiliation, but stood firm and undeterred.

He also criticized the PDP for betraying the trust of promising first-time aspirants, especially members of the State House of Assembly. According to Ezeugwu, these individuals were lured into investing in constituency empowerment initiatives and campaign efforts under the false promise of future candidacy—only to be abandoned without support when the time came.

Ezeugwu expressed particular disappointment in the party’s apparent disloyalty during national elections, alleging that party leaders courted candidates from rival parties while neglecting their own.

He described the entire experience as emotionally taxing, especially in light of the significant contributions made by members of the 7th Assembly of Enugu State. “Trust is the bedrock of any relationship,” Ezeugwu concluded. “Without it, sustaining relationships becomes nearly impossible. It is pitiful, shameful, and heartbreaking that ‘Papas deceived Pikins’ who respected and trusted them as father figures. DECEITOCRACY.”
