Coalition Opposing Tinubu Denies Adopting ADC as Political Platform for 2027 Elections

A political coalition comprising opposition leaders and disgruntled members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has firmly denied reports claiming it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, Salihu Moh. Lukman, former APC Vice Chairman (Northwest) and interim spokesperson of the coalition, dismissed the media reports as entirely false and misleading. He emphasized that no such decision was made during the coalition’s meeting held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

“The public should disregard the story, as it is completely false,” Lukman stated. “Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting. No such decision has been taken.”

He clarified that consultations and negotiations among the coalition’s leadership are still ongoing and progressing positively. Final decisions regarding the political platform the group will adopt for the 2027 elections will be made in due course.

Lukman also warned against the activities of individuals deliberately spreading misinformation, accusing them of attempting to create divisions within the coalition.

“Unfortunately, there appear to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders,” he said. “The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”

He assured that once a consensus is reached, an official and coordinated announcement will be made by the coalition’s leadership.
