North Central APC Leaders Support President Tinubu for Second Term Ahead of 2027 Elections

In a decisive show of support, key leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North Central region have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement came during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday night, May 21, 2025, in Abuja.

The meeting, attended by five state governors from the region, federal ministers, National Assembly members, and other critical stakeholders, culminated in a communique affirming President Tinubu’s leadership and urging him to seek reelection in 2027. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, formally moved the motion for the endorsement.

“We, members of the APC North Central geopolitical zone, having watched with total satisfaction the sterling performance of the APC-led government under President Tinubu, hereby resolve to endorse him for another four-year term,” Akume declared.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who read the communique, emphasized the president’s tenacity and foresight in navigating national challenges. He highlighted the numerous development initiatives under Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” including road rehabilitation, educational reforms, rural electrification, and agricultural empowerment projects transforming the North Central region.

“In recognition of these achievements and the President’s commitment to equity and development, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in his administration and endorse his candidacy for 2027,” Sule stated.

The communique also praised the APC’s national leadership under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for promoting party unity and internal democracy. It reaffirmed the region’s commitment to strengthening the party’s grassroots support and aligning with policies that prioritize economic revitalization, job creation, and national security.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, recalled the region’s earlier request for the establishment of a North Central Development Commission — a request that has since been granted by the Tinubu administration. He lauded this achievement and commended the President’s creation of the national forest guards initiative, which he described as a bold and community-centered security strategy.

“We call for continued support for President Tinubu and our great party, even beyond 2027. This is vital for national cohesion, sustainable growth, and political stability,” Abdulrazaq added.

The communique was jointly signed by the SGF, Senator George Akume, and the governors of Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, and Kogi States. Additional signatories included Senator Simon Along and Minister for Special Duties, Zephaniah Jisalo.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Joseph Utsev; and several former governors and lawmakers from the North Central zone.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje emphasized the party’s inclusive leadership style, noting that members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and state party chairmen had been appointed as board chairmen across various federal institutions.

“This level of inclusiveness is helping us deepen participation and unity within the party,” Ganduje said.

With this endorsement, the North Central APC has thrown its full weight behind President Tinubu’s administration, positioning him as their preferred candidate to consolidate his current reforms and development agenda in the coming years.
