The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Maduabuchi Obiano, has firmly denied claims that he endorsed any candidate for the upcoming November 8 governorship election in the state.
In a detailed statement released in Awka by Dr. Paul Nwosu, his former Commissioner for Information, Obiano labeled the circulating report as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public. The statement urged Anambra citizens and the general public to disregard the claims entirely.
According to Dr. Nwosu, the misleading report, which went viral on social media, falsely claimed that Chief Obiano had endorsed a specific governorship aspirant during an alleged meeting with Ndi Anambra in Texas, United States. The post purported that Obiano praised the said aspirant’s capabilities and urged support for his candidacy.
Dr. Nwosu clarified that Chief Obiano neither held any such meeting in Texas nor made any public or private comments regarding the forthcoming election or any individual aspirant.
“As a respected statesman and a former governor who served Anambra State with dedication and distinction, Chief Obiano remains deeply committed to the peace, progress, and democratic values of the state,” Nwosu stated.
He further explained that while Chief Obiano is not detached from political affairs, any official position or endorsement he wishes to make will be communicated personally and transparently—not through anonymous individuals or dubious online sources.
The statement concluded by advising the public to completely disregard the viral post and treat it as an instance of fake news intended to manipulate public perception.
