A tragic accident involving five vehicles has claimed the lives of three people and left six others injured along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Area Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
Ajibade, who confirmed the incident in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), explained that the accident was caused by a cement truck that experienced brake failure while traveling at high speed from Sango Ota towards the tollgate. The out-of-control truck rammed into four other vehicles, resulting in fatalities and multiple injuries.
He further stated that the six injured individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Ifo General Hospital in Ogun State. The bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.
Ajibade used the opportunity to urge motorists to always ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before hitting the road. He also emphasized the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving, warning that such behavior continues to lead to avoidable tragedies on Nigerian roads.
To restore traffic flow in the affected area, the damaged vehicles have since been cleared from the expressway.
