On May 27, 2025, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, made a heartfelt return to his alma mater, the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, delivering an inspiring message to the young cadets and reaffirming his deep-rooted connection to the institution that shaped his early years.
Speaking during an interactive session with the students as part of activities marking NMS’s 71st anniversary, Air Marshal Abubakar reflected on his journey from a young cadet to becoming Nigeria’s top air force officer. Addressing the students not only as the CAS but as a proud alumnus of NMS, he shared personal stories of discipline, perseverance, and the role of divine grace in achieving one’s dreams.
“I stand here today as living proof that with discipline, purpose, and God’s grace, no dream is too big to achieve,” he declared, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the student body. He urged them to remain hopeful and prepared for the future, emphasizing that greatness is built through consistent acts of excellence over time.
“Time moves quickly,” he reminded them, “and greatness doesn’t happen overnight; it begins with small acts of excellence done consistently.” He encouraged the students to train diligently, study smartly, and give their best in every academic and personal endeavor. “Stay curious, be kind, believe in something greater than yourself, and most importantly, believe in your future,” he advised.
As part of his visit, the CAS commissioned a newly remodeled and upgraded Medical Reception Station, a project he personally sponsored to enhance healthcare for the students. He also reviewed an impressive ceremonial parade held in his honor, expressing pride in the students’ regimental discipline and polished display.
During his remarks at the parade ground, Air Marshal Abubakar lauded the cadets for their precision and composure. He encouraged them to remain focused, dedicated, and to carry forward the proud legacy of the institution. “Stay focused, committed, and never lose pride in this remarkable heritage,” he said.
More than a ceremonial occasion, the CAS’s visit served as an emotional homecoming and a powerful symbol of inspiration for the students.
