FCTA Vows Prompt and Fair Compensation for Guzape

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promptly compensate residents of Guzape and Kpaduma communities in Abuja, whose properties and homes are affected by ongoing road construction in the area.

This assurance was given by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a crucial meeting held on Monday with traditional rulers and community representatives from both Guzape and Kpaduma.

Minister Wike stated that the purpose of the meeting was to address the lingering concerns surrounding the delayed relocation of residents who currently occupy land earmarked for the road corridor. He emphasized that the road project is a vital infrastructure development aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing connectivity across the FCT.

Expressing concern over the continued stay of some residents on the designated construction path, Wike reiterated that the FCTA has no intention of displacing any citizen unjustly. He pledged that every affected individual would be treated with fairness and dignity.

To that end, the Minister announced that compensation would be increased significantly. He specifically directed the Director of Resettlement to double the existing compensation rate for the affected persons, citing the current rates as inadequate.

“Double the amount. If someone is supposed to get N50, make it N100,” Wike ordered. He further instructed that the costs for resettlement be properly assessed without delay.

The Minister also assured the traditional leaders and their people that legal documents, including the Right of Occupancy, would be provided immediately for the new resettlement areas, ensuring that affected residents can begin rebuilding their lives with confidence and security.

“This is not about pushing people out—it’s about creating a better Abuja for everyone. We will do what is just and ensure your people are properly resettled and compensated,” he concluded.
