Tragedy has struck Katsina State as the newly elected Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, has passed away, just two months after taking office.
Hon. Hamidu, who officially assumed duties in April 2025 following the February local government elections, died on Monday, June 9, 2025. While the exact cause of his death has not yet been made public, sources suggest he had been battling a health condition for some time, although this remains unconfirmed.
The news of his passing was confirmed by Kaula Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, who issued a statement on behalf of the state government.
In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Radda expressed profound sorrow over the untimely death of the local government chairman, describing him as a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), an experienced civil servant, and a dedicated grassroots politician.
“Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons,” the governor stated. “Hon. Hamidu was a quiet achiever who believed in the values of integrity, transparency, and people-first leadership. His death is a painful loss — not only to Bakori but to the entire state.”
The governor went on to highlight the remarkable qualities that defined Hamidu’s leadership, noting that even in his short time in office, he demonstrated sincere commitment to the development of his community and exemplified a purposeful approach to governance.
“Though his tenure was brief, he left behind a legacy of purpose-driven leadership and genuine concern for the welfare of his people,” Governor Radda said. “He was not someone who sought the spotlight. He let his work speak for him. Even in a short period, he showed what leadership could mean when rooted in sincerity.”
Governor Radda, speaking on behalf of the government and the people of Katsina State, extended his deepest condolences to the late chairman’s family, the people of Bakori Local Government, and the wider APC family.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi,” he prayed. “We will continue to remember him for his modesty, his dedication, and the love he had for his people.”
