The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has revealed the strategic deployment of 6,195 newly recruited soldiers as part of a renewed effort to combat terrorism, insurgency, and other security challenges in various parts of Nigeria.
This major announcement was made on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 88 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) held at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State. The event marked a significant milestone for the new recruits, who will now join the frontline in Nigeria’s ongoing fight to restore peace and stability to conflict-affected regions.
Addressing the recruits, General Oluyede emphasized the importance of courage, discipline, and professionalism, urging them to remain steadfast in their duties and to reflect the training and values instilled in them throughout their time at the Depot.
“As you pass out today and take your place in this noble profession, be aware that you are now part of our national solution to the persistent threats of terrorism and insurgency,” he stated. “Wherever you are deployed, let your conduct reflect the high standards and values of the Nigerian Army.”
Highlighting the Army’s longstanding role both within and beyond Nigeria’s borders, the COAS reminded the soldiers that they are now part of a historic tradition of service and sacrifice, contributing to peace and security not only in Nigeria but across West Africa and beyond.
“You are joining a lineage of brave men and women who have stood tall in the face of adversity. You are stakeholders in a noble mandate,” he added.
General Oluyede further charged the new soldiers to uphold the Army’s core values—trustworthiness, excellence, determination, and selfless service—stressing that they must never be found wanting in their professional responsibilities.
Reaffirming his leadership’s dedication to supporting the troops, Oluyede assured that the Nigerian Army remains committed to equipping its personnel with the necessary tools to perform their duties effectively. He also reiterated that the welfare of soldiers remains a top priority under his command philosophy.
He concluded by congratulating the recruits, reminding them that the day marked not just a ceremonial transition, but a personal and national milestone they and their families will forever cherish.
