President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the Nigeria Air Force Base in Makurdi, Benue State, at approximately 12:58 p.m. on a condolence visit to the state, following a deadly attack on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area. The violent incident, which occurred last Friday, was reportedly carried out by armed herdsmen and claimed the lives of over 200 people.
Upon arrival, President Tinubu was warmly received by key dignitaries including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia. Also present at the airport to welcome the President were the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, alongside other federal legislators representing Benue State.
In addition, several prominent figures from the North Central geopolitical zone were on hand to receive the President, including state governors, federal ministers, and other top government officials.
Following the airport reception, President Tinubu proceeded to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi, where he visited and sympathized with survivors of the brutal attack. He later moved to the Benue State Government House, where he is scheduled to participate in a town hall meeting with key stakeholders from the state. This engagement forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to address and find a lasting solution to the recurring violence and armed herdsmen attacks that have plagued Benue and its communities for years.
