A group of young individuals in Kano State have been captured in a viral video destroying campaign materials promoting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general elections.
In the 20-second footage, which surfaced online on Thursday and has since gained widespread attention, the youths are seen actively tearing down large posters and a billboard bearing the image of President Tinubu, amid loud cheers and expressions of enthusiasm from onlookers.
The incident is reported to have taken place shortly after a grand reception held in honor of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who had just returned to the state following his participation in the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Although the exact reason behind the action of the youths remains unclear, several observers and social media users have speculated that the destruction may be a manifestation of deep-seated frustration and growing discontent over the worsening economic conditions and persistent security challenges currently facing the nation under President Tinubu’s leadership.
Many netizens have pointed to the deteriorating standard of living and the spate of violence across parts of the country as likely factors behind the youths’ aggressive reaction toward the president’s re-election campaign materials.
The video emerged barely 24 hours after President Tinubu visited Benue State with a heavily armed security convoy. His visit was to commiserate with residents and victims of recent attacks allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen, which reportedly claimed over 100 lives and resulted in widespread destruction of homes and properties.
The Kano incident is already sparking intense discussions online, with many Nigerians viewing it as a symbolic act of protest and an indication of the growing dissatisfaction among the youth with the current administration.
