The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has lauded the impressive victory recorded by students of Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship, describing it as yet another shining example of Anambra’s growing reputation for excellence in education.
The international debate competition, jointly organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, was aimed at promoting cross-cultural dialogue while enhancing the critical thinking, public speaking, and reasoning skills of participating students from Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Representing Anambra State, the students from Saint John Vianney Science College emerged as overall champions, outperforming their counterparts from both Nigeria and the UK to secure the prestigious top prize. Participating schools from Nigeria included Britarch Schools, Abuja; Sure Start School, Abuja; St. Augustine’s College, Jos; and Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu. From the UK, Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School took part in the contest.
Reacting to the victory, Dr. Soludo stated, “This outstanding feat follows a growing pattern in Anambra State, where young talents are consistently breaking barriers and setting new records. Our state has become a fertile ground for nurturing excellence, and this success is a testament to the educational transformation being championed by our administration.”
She emphasized the importance the Soludo-led administration places on education, noting that the state continues to invest in initiatives that develop young minds and position them for global relevance. “By triumphing over Ivy League-standard schools to win this prestigious award, these brilliant students have reaffirmed that education is central to Anambra’s vision. It is a philosophy we understand and are deeply committed to sustaining,” she added.
Dr. Soludo extended her heartfelt congratulations to the students—Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine—and their guide, John Onuigbo. She also praised the management and staff of Saint John Vianney Science College for their dedication to shaping the future of their students through meaningful academic and personal development opportunities.
She concluded by commending the team for proudly representing Anambra on the global stage and reinforcing the state’s legacy of academic brilliance and human capital excellence.
