NYSC DG Demands Corps Members to Embrace Postings, Uphold Patriotism and Cultural Respect

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, has called on Corps Members to wholeheartedly accept their state postings and commit to delivering selfless service at their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs) in the spirit of national development.

This appeal was made during his interaction with the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State. According to a statement released by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations of the NYSC, Caroline Embu, Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the importance of adjusting quickly to their new environments and contributing positively to their host communities.

While addressing the Corps Members, General Nafiu encouraged them to respect the customs, traditions, and cultural values of their host communities, pointing out that Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity is a strength that must be cherished and understood.

He cautioned the Corps Members against any form of misconduct or violation of NYSC bylaws and national laws, stating that offenders would face appropriate disciplinary actions. He reminded them that the NYSC scheme is a national call to service and urged them to be patriotic in their conduct.

“As you have obeyed the clarion call, I urge you as Nigerian youths to believe in this country and lift this nation high,” the DG said. “We expect you to be patriotic citizens because Nigeria belongs to us all. Wherever you are posted, be diligent at your duty post. Avoid travelling at night and never travel without proper authorization.”

Earlier in her report to the Director General, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang, informed him that Corps Members had been fully engaged in various camp committees and were demonstrating commendable levels of commitment and performance.

She revealed that a total of 3,212 Corps Members were registered at the Lagos Orientation Camp—comprising 1,250 males and 1,960 females. Additionally, she noted that due to logistical adjustments, several Corps Members were dislodged to other states for their Orientation Course. These included 465 males and 651 females sent to Kwara, 502 males and 723 females to Ekiti, 291 males and 400 females to Ondo, and 722 males with 921 females to Osun State, bringing the total number of Corps Members deployed under Lagos State to 7,887.

The DG’s visit and remarks underscore the NYSC’s continued commitment to nurturing responsible, culturally-aware, and patriotic Nigerian youths ready to contribute to nation-building.
