The Presidency has officially refuted widespread reports claiming that Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The reports also alleged that the current SGF, Senator George Akume, had been reassigned as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the purported resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
In response to the viral claims, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, issued a formal statement dismissing the information as entirely false. He described the report as the handiwork of “agents of mischief” and urged the public to disregard it in its entirety.
Despite some initial celebrations by certain women’s groups over the rumored appointment of a female SGF, the Presidency clarified that no such decision had been made. Onanuga emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not approved any changes in key government positions.
The statement, titled “Akume Remains SGF”, reads as follows:
> “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.
The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.”
The government reiterates that Senator George Akume remains the SGF, and no leadership changes have been made within the APC or the presidency.
