Peter Obi Vows to Deliver Good Governance in Four Years

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has reaffirmed his commitment to serve only a single term if elected president, asserting that he does not require more than four years to provide effective and people-centered leadership for Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi emphasized his belief in purposeful governance and compassion-driven leadership. “I don’t need a day more than four years. I will show the direction of good governance,” he stated. “In two years, there has been maximum damage. Two years can also turn things around positively. People want to wake up and see a president who genuinely cares, one who shows compassion.”

The former governor of Anambra State also officially announced his intention to contest the presidency in 2027, affirming his eligibility and readiness to lead the country. “Nobody has ever approached me to discuss being anything else. I am going to contest for the President of Nigeria, and I believe I’m qualified,” Obi said.

Addressing recent political developments, Obi clarified the decision by a coalition of opposition parties to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a common platform for the 2027 elections. He dismissed claims that this move signaled disloyalty to the Labour Party or an abandonment of its ideals.

“There is nothing anti-party about the decision,” he explained. “We are not leaving the Labour Party. We are going together. What remains constant is our collective agreement to work as one.”

Obi’s remarks highlight his continued relevance in Nigeria’s political space and his commitment to uniting opposition forces ahead of the next general elections.
