Nine Killed, Including Three Children, in Tragic Auto Crash at Maiduguri

A fatal road accident claimed the lives of nine individuals — including three children — on Friday afternoon, July 18, 2025, along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

According to a statement issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Usman Muhammad, the accident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM and involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hummer bus operated by Borno Express and a commercial trailer.

Among the deceased were five adult males, one adult female, two male children, and one female child. Eight victims reportedly died instantly at the scene, while the ninth passed away later at the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.

Seven other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicate that the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Commander Usman Muhammad extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the need for motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations to avoid such tragic incidents.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The FRSC is also urging the motoring public to remain cautious and vigilant on the roads, especially during peak travel hours.
