The Federal Government has announced the clearance of N5.12 billion in outstanding pension arrears owed to 90,689 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), managed by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi, Head of Corporate Communications at PTAD, confirmed that the directorate had completed the disbursement process. He noted that the payments cover pensioners across all four PTAD departments, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of retirees.
According to the breakdown, pensioners under the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) — totaling 8,626 individuals — received a cumulative N276.032 million, representing one month of arrears. The Police Pension Department (PPD) paid N619.584 million to 9,681 pensioners for two months of arrears.
Similarly, the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) disbursed N408.736 million to its beneficiaries, covering one month of arrears, while the Parastatals Pension Department (PAPD) allocated N3.814 billion to settle two months of arrears for its pensioners.
Ajayi stated that the payment aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which prioritizes ensuring that pensioners promptly receive their rightful entitlements.
