Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting education, describing it as a catalyst for the state’s socio-economic and intellectual growth.
Speaking in Igueben, Edo Central Senatorial District, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign tour of several wards — including Ward 4, Ward 7, Ward 8, Uzea Kingdom, and Ebele Kingdom — ahead of next Saturday’s senatorial by-election, the governor highlighted his plans to revive the College of Education, Igueben. He noted that this initiative would bring significant development to the area.
“We will continue to march forward. We are reviving the College of Education, Igueben. We have rolled out a ₦1 billion bursary scheme to cater for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions,” Okpebholo declared.
The governor also welcomed a wave of defectors from other political parties, including notable leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Among them was the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Itula, who joined the APC in Okpoju Ward 4.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, continued mobilising support in the Ovia Federal Constituency ahead of the House of Representatives by-election. Addressing party members at the APC flag-off campaign in Ovia South West, Idahosa described the poll as a litmus test for the state chapter of the party. He urged leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation to ensure victory.
He commended Governor Okpebholo’s ongoing infrastructural projects in the constituency, noting that these developments have made life more meaningful for residents. “We are not taking this election for granted. When you get home, tell your family and neighbours that APC is one way. Vote for Omosede Igbinedion, the only female candidate for the National Assembly from Edo State,” Idahosa stated.
APC’s candidate, Omosede Igbinedion, praised the deputy governor as a grassroots politician committed to the constituency’s progress. She urged residents to sustain their support for both the deputy governor and the APC, promising that continued backing would translate to more infrastructural development for the area.
