The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest and detention of eight suspects linked to various criminal activities, including the brutal mutilation of a 16-year-old boy’s scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Monday in Osogbo, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident occurred on July 26 at about 4:00 p.m. According to him, three suspects from Apomu had gone to cultivate farmland in the Arademi area of Ikire. After clearing the grass, two of them lured the teenage victim to a secluded bush where they allegedly cut open his abdomen in an attempt to extract vital organs.
“They, however, succeeded in removing his scrotum and fled the scene when the victim cried out for help,” Ojelabi explained.
Police operatives quickly responded to the distress call, rescued the boy, and rushed him to a hospital for urgent treatment before referring him to the University College Hospital (UCH) for further medical care. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of eight suspects connected to the crime.
Ojelabi also disclosed that on July 30, at about 11:45 a.m., two suspected cult members believed to operate around Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, were apprehended in front of the campus.
Other arrests in July included a suspect who allegedly robbed a victim of an iPhone 11 in Oke Baale, Osogbo, and another caught with a cut-to-size gun after being stopped on his motorcycle in Sedona, Ede. Additionally, a man accused of stealing a motorcycle from a mosque was also taken into custody.
The police spokesperson confirmed that all the arrested individuals would be prosecuted in court once investigations are concluded.
