Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after spending a short vacation in London, putting to rest widespread rumours about his health.
Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4:00 a.m. on Monday. He was warmly received at the presidential wing by a delegation of senators, aides, and supporters.
Addressing journalists shortly after his arrival, the Senate President dismissed claims circulating on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised abroad.
“The speculation about my health is nothing but imagination from its purveyors. I am fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” Akpabio said.
The 62-year-old leader had earlier participated in the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, before proceeding to the United Kingdom. According to him, the Nigerian delegation made significant contributions during the conference, particularly in pushing for stronger democratic governance and improved collaboration between the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
Looking ahead, Akpabio assured Nigerians of an active and productive legislative season when the National Assembly reconvenes.
“We promise robust legislative engagements when the Senate resumes from recess,” he added.
Also speaking on the matter, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Gbenga Daniel, reaffirmed that the rumours of Akpabio’s ill health were false.
