All South-East Governors Backing Tinubu for 2027

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that all governors from the South-East region are united in their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

In a statement shared via Instagram, the former governor of Ebonyi State stressed that the zone’s governors, irrespective of party affiliation, are solidly behind the president. He maintained that when the presidency is eventually zoned to the South-East, he should take the lead role, citing his record of achievements in public service.

“When the presidency comes to the South-East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance. God used me to better Ebonyi State, and now President Tinubu is using me to better the South-East,” Umahi stated.

The minister’s remarks come nearly two months after he disclosed plans for a South-East political summit where regional leaders would formally declare their support for President Tinubu.

Earlier in May, in a State House documentary marking Tinubu’s second year in office, Umahi affirmed that all South-East governors were aligned with the president’s administration. He argued that the region is now experiencing an unprecedented wave of federal attention and infrastructural projects under Tinubu’s leadership.

“The Igbo man is enterprising and blessed with wisdom. What Ndi Igbo desire is fairness and a Nigeria that treats every zone equally. That is what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing,” he said.

Highlighting the impact on his home state, Umahi explained that the absence of federal presence was once a major concern in Ebonyi, but that situation has changed. “Today, nobody talks about lack of federal presence anymore. Under President Tinubu, at least four federal projects are ongoing in Ebonyi State,” he added.
