The All Progressives Congress (APC) support group, Grassroots Mass Mobilisation Support Group (GMMSG), was officially inaugurated on Sunday in Edo State, with its leadership charging party members to work tirelessly to secure victory in all available positions during next year’s local government elections.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the National President of GMMSG, Hon. Faisal Mohammed, noted that the group would also play a key role in mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. He recalled the promise made by Governor Monday Okpebholo to deliver 2.5 million votes for the president and assured that GMMSG would actively contribute to achieving that target.
He said:
“We have seen the developmental strides of the governor, which align with President Tinubu’s vision for the people. We are very pleased with the direction of leadership in Edo State. This group belongs to everyone, and as the local government elections draw closer, our commitment is to ensure that the APC emerges victorious in every contested seat.”
Also speaking, the National Secretary of GMMSG, High Chief Patrick Chime, emphasised that the group is strictly for card-carrying members of the APC. He encouraged members to spread the party’s message across all parts of the state, pointing out that the revised APC constitution formally recognises the role of support groups in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
In her remarks, the State Coordinator of GMMSG, Princess Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, explained that the newly inaugurated team would be working closely with local government coordinators to ensure effective grassroots mobilisation.
According to her:
“The vision of GMMSG is clear—to galvanise the strength of the people at the grassroots, amplify their voices, and ensure inclusiveness in democratic and developmental processes.
“Our mission in Edo State is to mobilise citizens for active participation in governance, foster unity across communities and local governments, support credible leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people, and champion initiatives that promote social justice, equity, and sustainable development at the grassroots.
“We believe that real power lies with the people. The grassroots are the foundation of every thriving democracy. From villages and towns to local communities, strength flows upward into the larger political system. GMMSG is committed to serving as a platform where the concerns, aspirations, and talents of our people are not only acknowledged but translated into action.”
With the inauguration of its Edo State chapter, GMMSG said it is now fully positioned to strengthen APC’s reach across the grassroots and contribute meaningfully to the party’s success in the state and beyond.
