SDP Refutes El-Rufai’s Claims of Merger with ADC in Kaduna

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has strongly denied former governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai’s claim that its political structures in the state have collapsed and been absorbed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Adamu Idris, the party described El-Rufai’s remarks as “false, misleading, and without basis.” The SDP maintained that it remains united, functional, and committed to strengthening its position as a credible opposition voice in Kaduna State and beyond.

The statement recalled El-Rufai’s brief membership in the SDP, noting that his presence was characterized by internal disputes and disruptions within the party. It added that since his departure, peace and stability have been restored, and the party has continued to grow stronger across the state.

“Our structures are active, vibrant, and fully operational across all parts of Kaduna State. We remain focused on advancing the genuine interests of the people and will not be swayed by desperate attempts to create confusion,” the party declared.

The SDP went further to criticize the former governor, branding him “a non-democrat, self-centered opportunist, unrepentant bigot, and a symbol of tyranny.” It assured its supporters that the party’s unity, principles, and values remain intact.

The statement emphasized that the SDP would continue to stand for democracy, inclusiveness, and good governance while resisting any move to weaken its foundations.

It would be recalled that El-Rufai, alongside some opposition leaders, had announced during a strategic meeting over the weekend that the SDP’s Kaduna structure had been dissolved into the ADC. According to the coalition’s Publicity Secretary, Darius Kurah, the step was aimed at fostering greater unity among opposition parties in the state.
