Former Zamfara Central Senator and 2023 Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Zamfara State, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has officially confirmed his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His decision followed a crucial meeting of his political structure held last Wednesday and Thursday, during which leaders and stakeholders unanimously resolved to abandon the party. They attributed their action to what they described as persistent injustice, neglect, and worsening insecurity ravaging Zamfara State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the group raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the state, pointing to recent reports ranking Zamfara as the state with the highest number of kidnapping incidents nationwide.
The statement further accused the Federal Government of politicizing security, particularly during the recent Kaura Namoda bye-election. According to the group, security operatives were allegedly deployed to guarantee APC’s electoral success rather than to safeguard lives and property.
On the issue of political appointments, Marafa’s loyalists expressed dissatisfaction, alleging deliberate marginalization of Zamfara despite its significant contribution to the APC’s 2023 presidential victory. They noted that while several states in the North-West were allotted multiple ministerial slots, Zamfara was given only one. In addition, communities devastated by banditry attacks have received little or no meaningful federal intervention.
The communiqué, jointly signed by Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara (Chairman) and Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe (Secretary), emphasized that the group would soon unveil its next political direction, in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Zamfara State.
