Donnarumma Confirm Deadline Day Move to Manchester City in €35m

Manchester City are set to complete the signing of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €35 million ($41 million), according to reports. The transfer is expected to be finalized on Monday, the final day of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper has been searching for a new club after PSG deemed him surplus to requirements, despite his crucial role in their UEFA Champions League triumph last season.

During the summer, PSG strengthened their goalkeeping options by signing 23-year-old Lucas Chevalier from Lille. Head coach Luis Enrique has already confirmed that the young Frenchman will be his first-choice goalkeeper for the season, leaving Donnarumma without a guaranteed place in the squad.

Initially, it was thought that Donnarumma would only consider joining City if current number one Ederson left the club. However, new developments suggest an agreement has been reached for the Italian international to move to the Etihad regardless.

Manchester City had earlier recruited England U21 goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley this summer, and he has featured in all three of their opening Premier League fixtures. Despite being trusted with the starting role, Trafford’s performances have reportedly failed to convince Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff, prompting the move for Donnarumma.
