NCFront, Civil Society Groups Set to Host National Dialogue on Electoral Reforms

The National Consultative Front (NCFront), in partnership with the Labour and Civil Society Front (LCSF), has unveiled plans to convene a major National Dialogue on Electoral Reforms as part of a broader nationwide campaign to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement by NCFront spokesperson, Mallam Hamisu San Turaki, the dialogue is scheduled to take place on October 1, 2025. The decision followed resolutions reached at a recent leadership consultative meeting in Lagos, which built upon recommendations from the National Constitutional Summit organized earlier by The Patriots and the Nigeria Political Summit Group (NPSG).

Turaki explained that the campaign will focus on advancing critical reforms within Nigeria’s electoral process. Among the key proposals are the compulsory electronic transmission of election results, stiffer penalties against vote buying, the introduction of early and diaspora voting, proportional representation in governance, and the allocation of special seats for women and vulnerable groups to deepen inclusion.

A number of eminent Nigerians are expected to play leading roles in driving the initiative. They include Prof. Pat Utomi, former INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Barr. Clement Nwankwo, Prophet Isa El-Buba, Engr. Buba Galadima, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Dr. Bilikisu Magoro, and Samson Itodo, among others.

As part of the October 1 event, the groups will also formally launch the Alliance for Defence of Democracy (ADD), a platform designed to coordinate citizen action and mobilization around the reform agenda. The gathering will feature the participation of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, alongside other leaders of conscience who have pledged their commitment to strengthening democracy and ensuring credible elections in Nigeria.
