The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 71 suspects following a series of coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots across Abuja.
The large-scale operation, which took place on September 8, 2025, was simultaneously conducted in several divisions including Gwagwalada, Kubwa, Nyanya, Apo, Karmo, Maitama, Mabushi, Dawaki, Galadima, Asokoro, Karu, Jikwoyi, Mpape, Lokogoma, and Utako.
During the exercise, officers recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp along with other illicit drugs. Police authorities revealed that all suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation, while those found culpable will be charged to court.
The crackdown comes amid recent reports of increasing criminal activities in parts of the FCT, underscoring renewed security measures to address emerging threats within the nation’s capital.
Meanwhile, on September 9, operatives attached to the Byazhin Division successfully rescued a 40-year-old woman, Ms. Mary Moore, who had earlier been declared missing in Keffi, Nasarawa State. She was discovered in the Byazhin area of Abuja and has since been handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for medical evaluation and care.
In a separate development, detectives in Gwagwalada have commenced investigations into the discovery of the decomposing body of an unidentified man in the Ibwa 1 area, also on September 9. After consultations with community leaders, the remains were buried in accordance with local traditions.
On the same day in Gwagwalada, police received a report of the sudden death of a 24-year-old woman, identified as Ebubechukwu Sunday Kelechi, at the residence of her fiancé. Preliminary findings indicated that she had been receiving treatment for malaria, with medications found at the scene. Investigators noted no visible injuries on her body, and further inquiries are ongoing.
