Farmer Killed, Families Injured as Armed Herdsmen Strike Tse Akor Gbatse In Benue

A fresh wave of violence has hit Tse Akor Gbatse village in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, leaving a farmer dead, several family members injured, and many residents missing.

The assault occurred on Saturday afternoon, just a few kilometers from Daudu town, only days after locals had raised an alarm over an impending invasion. Armed herders reportedly stormed the community, unleashing terror on farmers and residents.

According to a local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, intelligence had reached the community earlier that the attackers were camped at Rukubi in Doma LGA of Nasarawa State, from where they allegedly planned to invade border settlements in Guma.

“They claimed their three children went missing weeks ago in one of the nearby communities,” the source said. “On Saturday afternoon, they struck, killing Tachia Akor, his wife, and one Mrs. Tsetim. Several others sustained serious injuries.”

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Adi Hospital in Daudu town, while many other farmers remain unaccounted for. Reports also suggest that the attackers are still roaming deserted communities within Guma LGA, heightening fears of further violence.

The source appealed for urgent intervention from security agencies to restore peace and protect residents from further attacks.

When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the incident. He said officers had been deployed to the affected community.

“Yes, we received information on the attack. Our men have since moved in, investigations are ongoing, and normalcy has returned to the area,” Edet assured.
