NECO Announce 2025 SSCE Results, Over 818,000 Candidates Pass With Five Credits Including English and Mathematics

Minna — The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26 percent, securing at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

A total of 1,144,496 candidates also achieved five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics, out of the 1,367,310 students who sat for the examination nationwide. This figure comprised 680,292 males and 678,047 females. The results were made public 54 days after the last paper was written.

Speaking at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, revealed that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in cases of mass cheating. He explained that these schools would be invited for further deliberations with the council, after which appropriate sanctions would be applied.

In addition, 3,878 candidates were found guilty of examination malpractice in 2025, a significant drop from the 10,094 recorded in 2024.

Prof. Wushishi further disclosed that nine supervisors were indicted for misconduct, including poor supervision, aiding and abetting cheating, lateness, unruly behaviour, assault, and insubordination. The affected supervisors, three from Rivers State, one from Niger, three from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), one from Kano, and one from Osun, have been recommended for blacklisting.

He added that NECO was already engaging relevant state governments regarding the affected schools. He stressed that the results of candidates from these schools could not be released immediately, as they remained incomplete pending further review.
