Rivers Peace Initiative Demands Transparent Handover to Governor Fubara

The Rivers Peace Initiative (RPI) has appealed to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ikot-Ete Ibas (rtd), to guarantee a transparent and hitch-free transfer of power to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday, as the state transitions back to democratic rule.

The call was made during a peace walk held in Port Harcourt under the theme “United for Peace, United for Rivers.” The procession attracted a diverse group of participants, including civil society leaders, faith-based organizations, professionals, entertainers, and representatives of market associations.

During the event, the RPI Convener, Obinna Ebogidi, presented a solidarity letter to the Sole Administrator at Government House. In his remarks, Ebogidi praised Vice Admiral Ibas for his leadership during the transitional period, highlighting that history would remember his role in maintaining calm and order at a time of political uncertainty.

“As your stewardship as Sole Administrator comes to an end, Rivers State finds itself at a very sensitive turning point,” Ebogidi stated. “We have witnessed that peace is possible when leaders demonstrate restraint and when citizens choose dialogue over confrontation. It is crucial that you preserve the peace achieved under your tenure and ensure that the handover process is seamless, transparent, and conducted in good faith.”

He emphasized that the fragile calm currently enjoyed in the state must not be undermined by political actors or vested interests, urging stakeholders to build on the progress made during the emergency administration.

The Rivers Peace Initiative further pledged its commitment to supporting Governor Fubara in promoting reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusive governance as Rivers State resumes full democratic leadership.
