Kwankwaso States Conditions for Possible Return to APC

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has outlined the terms under which he may consider rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at his residence in Kano, Kwankwaso emphasized that any political alliance must fully recognize and protect the interests of his party, the NNPP, as well as his political movement, the Kwankwasiyya.

The former two-term governor of Kano State recalled the sacrifices made during the formation of the APC, noting that he and his associates faced persecution from security agencies under the previous administration. Despite their contributions, Kwankwaso said they were sidelined once the APC assumed power, simply because they did not belong to the dominant faction within the party.

“We have agreed to consider joining the APC, but only based on clear terms that safeguard the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement,” Kwankwaso said. “There is no state you will visit without finding our structures — we have gubernatorial candidates, senatorial candidates, and many others.”

He stressed that he would not allow himself or his movement to be used and later abandoned as in the past. While expressing satisfaction with the NNPP’s current standing and internal peace, Kwankwaso noted that his team remains open to a political alliance, whether with the APC or even the PDP, provided that any agreement is transparent and firmly guarantees their inclusion.

“We are not in a hurry to leave the NNPP. But if there will be an alliance, it must be on strong terms and promises, and such agreements should be made public to avoid future betrayal,” he added.
