ABUJA – The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is scheduled to administer the oath of office to 57 newly elevated Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on September 29.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Supreme Court, Dr. Festus Akande. He noted that the ceremony will form a major highlight of the events marking the commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year of the apex court.
As part of the age-long tradition, the CJN will deliver a “State of the Judiciary” address during the special court session. The address will review the performance of the Supreme Court specifically, as well as the Nigerian judiciary at large, for the 2024/2025 legal year.
In addition, key stakeholders in the justice sector will present speeches assessing the state of the legal profession. Those expected to speak include the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), among others.
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court officially commenced its annual vacation on Monday, July 21, 2025, following what was described as a remarkably successful 2024/2025 legal year.
According to the statement, all activities marking the beginning of the new legal year are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. on the said date.
