Jerry Gana: Jonathan Will Compete For 2027 Presidential Election on PDP Platform

Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has firmly declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will return to the political stage as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2027.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, Gana stated that Nigerians, having experienced two other administrations since Jonathan left office, were now eager for his return.

“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President served for eight years, and the current administration has now spent two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. The people are now demanding the return of our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana said.

He added with confidence: “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP candidate, and we must be prepared to vote him back into office.”

Gana described the PDP as “a truly democratic and grassroots-oriented party” that has consistently allowed Nigerians to freely elect their leaders. He noted that the party remained popular because of its people-focused programmes.

Addressing speculations about internal divisions, the former minister dismissed claims of crisis, explaining that disagreements within the PDP had long been settled. “When there was a near crisis, the founding fathers convened a consultative conference in Abuja and resolved all issues. Today, the party is united and ready for the 2027 elections,” he assured.

He further urged Nigerians to “shine their eyes” and vote out the current administration in favour of Jonathan’s return for what he described as “good governance.”

Meanwhile, the Niger State PDP congress produced Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu as the new chairman with 1,289 votes, defeating the Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (popularly known as Ability), who secured 1,269 votes.

Other key winners included Alhaji Khadi Kuta, returned unopposed as Secretary, and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu, who emerged Woman Leader with 1,373 votes against Ramotu Jibrin’s 590.

In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity and collective effort, urging party members to work together to ensure the return of a “people-oriented government” in 2027.
