In his Independence Day broadcast, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians, describing them as the nation’s “greatest asset” and the future of the country.
Addressing the nation, he emphasized the crucial role of young people in shaping Nigeria’s destiny:
> “I have a message for our young people. You are the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country. You must continue to dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in your various fields of science, technology, sports, and the creative sector. Our administration, through policies and funding, will continue to give you wings to fly sky-high.”
Highlighting key initiatives, the President cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) as a flagship program supporting students across the country. According to him, about 510,000 students from 228 higher institutions across 36 states and the FCT have so far benefited, with total disbursements reaching ₦99.5 billion. Additionally, a separate ₦44.7 billion has been allocated as upkeep allowances to beneficiaries.
He also outlined the achievements of Credicorp, an initiative that has provided 153,000 Nigerians with ₦30 billion in affordable loans for essential needs, including vehicles, solar power, home improvements, and digital devices.
On youth-focused financial inclusion, the President announced that YouthCred, which he pledged in June, has already taken off. The scheme has enabled “tens of thousands” of NYSC members to access consumer credit, easing their resettlement process after service.
These programs, he said, represent his administration’s practical commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian youths to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.
