Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups allegedly using his name and image to promote online businesses and commercial ventures without authorization.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, titled “False Use of My Name for Online Promotions,” Obi expressed concern over the continuous misuse of his identity by persons seeking to deceive the public for personal and financial gain.
He condemned such activities as fraudulent, deceptive, and intended solely to exploit public trust, stressing that he has no affiliation or connection with any of the online endorsements or promotional activities being circulated in his name.
“Despite earlier clarifications issued by my aides, some individuals have continued to exploit my name and image for personal and commercial gain, misleading unsuspecting members of the public,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor made it clear that he has never authorized any individual, business, or online platform to use his name, photograph, or identity for any commercial purpose or profit-making venture.
Obi further cautioned Nigerians to be vigilant and disregard any online content or advertisements claiming to represent him in business dealings or endorsements.
“The general public is therefore strongly advised to disregard these false claims and exercise utmost caution when encountering any online content that purports to represent or involve me in business dealings,” he warned.
He assured that any legitimate information concerning him or his engagements would continue to be released only through his officially verified channels.
