Ahead of future elections, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that only individuals listed on the party’s digital register will be eligible for political appointments.
This declaration was made on Wednesday, June 5, during the opening session of the e-membership registration “Train-the-Trainer” workshop in Abuja.
The workshop trained 109 participants—three from each of the 36 states and one from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)—to initiate the APC’s membership e-registration exercise.
Ganduje emphasized the shift away from manually maintained registers, asserting that only those on the digital register would be recognized as legitimate members of the party. He encouraged all Nigerians to join the APC and take advantage of the upcoming e-registration process.
He clarified that both current and prospective members must provide biometric data that matches the information in their National Identity Number (NIN). This process aims to enhance planning, decision-making, and projections, and it will serve as a reference point for any party member seeking appointments or running for office.
Ganduje highlighted the features of the registration platform, mentioning that the APC portal for trainees from the 36 states and the FCT will soon be reactivated.
This will allow both existing and new members to register online and join the party from anywhere in the world. He reiterated the need for biometric data to be consistent with NIN details.
The chairman appealed to the Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, to provide technical support for the success of the e-registration exercise.
He urged the trainees to fully absorb the training to effectively implement the registration process in their respective states.
Ganduje reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s principles, aiming to establish new standards in the nation’s democracy and ensure the party’s continued governance at all levels.
National Organising Secretary Alhaji Suliaman Arugungu, represented by Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru, noted that the initiation of the exercise disproved skeptics.
He praised the chairman’s unwavering focus on digitalizing the party’s membership register despite doubts about its feasibility.
Project coordinator Samuel Adedapo Adedoyin described the Members Registration Portal as a comprehensive digital solution designed to streamline member registration, management, and engagement.
The platform aims to address the inefficiencies of traditional paper-based or fragmented digital systems, offering a unified, user-friendly interface for members and administrators alike.
