JUST IN: EFCC Withdraws Naira Abuse Charge Against Cubana Chief Priest

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled in favor of Pascal Okechukwu, known as Cubana Chief Priest, by granting a motion from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to discontinue its case against him.

This decision follows the revelation that both parties were exploring a settlement in the matter. During the court session on May 2, defense counsel Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) informed the court that the parties were negotiating a settlement, leading to the case being adjourned to June 5 for a settlement report, NewdayReporters learnt.

The court scheduled the next session for June 5 to receive the settlement report. However, on the specified date, the defense requested another adjournment, and the case was subsequently rescheduled for mention on June 25.

Cubana Chief Priest faced accusations of tampering with N500 denomination notes while dancing at a social event, which the EFCC claimed was a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007. He had been arraigned on April 17 on a three-count charge related to Naira abuse.
