The Kano State Government has announced the immediate suspension of Rabi’u, a Senior Special Reporter attached to the Ministry of Transportation, following a directive from the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.
According to an official statement released by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, the suspension stems from a controversial statement made by Rabi’u which, according to the government, does not represent its official stance and was issued without any form of clearance or approval.
“The government has dissociated itself from the claim, stating clearly that the statement in question was made by the suspended aide independently and for motives known only to him,” the release emphasized.
In light of the incident, Rabi’u has been issued a formal query and is expected to respond, as the statement has sparked significant political controversy within the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, through his official spokesperson, issued a stern warning to all political appointees, reminding them to refrain from making unauthorised public statements—especially on politically sensitive issues—without prior clearance.
“The government cautions all political appointees against unauthorized comments, especially those beyond their official jurisdiction. Any public remarks on matters of government policy or political decisions must first receive proper clearance,” Bature reiterated.
He further clarified that only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wayya, is officially mandated to speak on behalf of the Kano State Government. Bature himself remains the only authorised spokesperson for the Governor.
