Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Blasts Tinubu Over Premature Commissioning of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the premature commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, which he claims is less than five percent complete.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Rhodes-Vivour expressed dismay at what he sees as an attempt by the federal government to exaggerate progress on a project that is still in its infancy.

According to him, “It is not only shameful to roll out the drums and celebrate the commissioning of a project that is barely five percent complete, but it is even more disgraceful to distort the truth and mislead Nigerians with claims of having completed 30 kilometers.”

He likened the situation to a recent controversy involving the Minister of Finance, who was allegedly caught presenting false economic data abroad, only to be corrected by the Central Bank of Nigeria shortly afterward. “So embarrassing,” he added.

Rhodes-Vivour further criticized the federal government’s priorities, pointing out the rising insecurity in the country and questioning the glorification of the National Security Adviser amid worsening conditions.

He concluded that the current administration, and by extension the ruling party, is more focused on political propaganda than on actual governance. “The harsh truth is that a party fixated on politics and propaganda cannot govern effectively. That is why Nigerians are much poorer today than they were less than a decade ago,” he stated.
