In a statement released on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, directed NPF Pensions Limited to immediately investigate the allegations surrounding police pension issues. He instructed the body to identify any shortcomings in the system and take swift and appropriate action to address the complaints raised.
The IGP stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains deeply aware of and concerned about the challenges faced by its pensioners—individuals who devoted their careers to the service and protection of the nation. He affirmed that the well-being of both active-duty and retired officers is a matter of high priority for the Force.
According to the statement, IGP Egbetokun underscored the critical importance of efficient and timely pension administration in sustaining morale among personnel and preserving the credibility and integrity of the institution.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts to enhance the police pension system, the IGP welcomed the recent constructive criticism, including a viral video that highlighted the difficulties faced by retirees. He described such feedback as valuable in pushing forward necessary reforms within the pension administration framework.
“The IGP reassures all officers—serving and retired—as well as their families, of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to continually improve welfare and to build a system that truly honors the sacrifices made by its personnel,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the IGP appealed for calm and patience among all stakeholders, particularly the affected pensioners. He assured that NPF Pensions Limited is actively collaborating with relevant government agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and implement enduring solutions that will resolve the concerns raised.
