APC Chieftain Urges Against 2027 VP Ambitions, Says Distractions Could Derail Tinubu’s Governance

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has raised concerns over early political maneuvering for the position of Vice President ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a personally signed statement released yesterday, Oyintiloye warned that such premature politicking could derail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s focus and hamper the country’s fragile economic recovery.

The former lawmaker urged political actors to hold back on their ambitions and instead channel their energies into supporting the President’s administration. He noted that Nigeria is still grappling with several national challenges that require undivided attention, including economic stability, insurgency, and the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure.

“Some individuals are already lobbying and positioning themselves for the vice-presidential slot,” Oyintiloye said. “Meanwhile, the President is facing monumental tasks—reviving a troubled economy, fighting insecurity, and addressing infrastructural decay. These distractions from political opportunists are capable of undermining the progress made so far.”

He further criticized the rising volume of political noise and described it as “nauseating,” adding that with the 2027 elections still more than a year and a half away, the current focus should remain on governance and national development.

Oyintiloye reminded the public that upon assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu inherited a host of economic challenges, including a mounting debt burden, a weakened naira, and the fiscal strain of fuel subsidy removal.

“Bringing up discussions about who gets what in 2027 or even 2031 at this critical moment is not only absurd but harmful,” he emphasized. “What the President needs now is our collective support, our prayers, and unwavering solidarity—not the distraction of a premature power tussle.”

He called on politicians to prioritize national interest over personal ambition, warning that continued distractions could be counterproductive to the country’s growth and stability.
