President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure through strategic, people-oriented projects that directly impact communities across the country.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday, the President made this known during the official commissioning of the newly dualised and upgraded 16.4-kilometre Ushafa to War College/Army Checkpoint road, alongside several ancillary roads within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his address, President Tinubu emphasized that his administration is focused on fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development through infrastructure renewal. He noted that the execution of such projects reflects the government’s dedication to building a nation where every community is accessible, every business is enabled to grow, and every citizen enjoys dignity and opportunity.
“We have transformed a path of frustration into a corridor of opportunity,” he said. “These dualised and upgraded roads will not only ease traffic congestion, but they will also revive local economies, improve access to education and healthcare, and enhance the general quality of life for residents of Ushafa, Bwari, and neighbouring communities.”
President Tinubu highlighted that the project’s execution by an indigenous contractor was a deliberate move to showcase the capability of local professionals. He underscored that beyond roads, the government is also building national capacity, creating jobs, and encouraging community ownership.
“This project was awarded to a Nigerian contractor because we believe in the competence, resilience, and creativity of our people,” he stated. “With the right support, Nigerian contractors can and will deliver world-class infrastructure.”
In his remarks, the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, described the ongoing wave of project commissioning across the FCT as unprecedented. He commended the President for his clear commitment to the welfare of FCT residents, particularly those in satellite towns, and emphasized that road infrastructure is critical for unlocking the economic potential of peri-urban and rural areas.
The Minister also lauded the indigenous contractor for a job well done, expressing satisfaction with the quality and speed of the project delivery.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed deep appreciation to both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their leadership. She stated that the development of modern infrastructure in satellite towns is reshaping the narrative of the Federal Capital Territory and laying a foundation for long-term development.
Similarly, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, applauded the administration’s focus on equitable development. He emphasized that residents of satellite towns remain strong supporters of the Tinubu-led government due to the visible impact of its policies.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Senator David Jimkuta, along with other members of the National Assembly. Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, and several prominent former governors and senators such as Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chibudom Nwuche, George Sekibo, Philip Aduda, and Mao Ohuabunwa.
